Features

Simple to use. Complete underneath.

Akaunty feels like a notes app and keeps books like an accountant. Here’s everything it does today, and what’s coming next.

Quick add

Record money the way you’d jot it down.

No forms full of accounting terms. Describe what happened and Akaunty drafts the entry for you to review.

Type it like a note
Amount, contact and account are picked up as you type. Change any of them before you save.
Income, expenses and transfers
Money in, money out, or between your own accounts. Each one becomes a balanced journal entry.
Draft first, post when ready
Keep an entry as a draft while you check it. Posting puts it in your reports.
Edit without losing history
Change a posted transaction and Akaunty reverses the old entry and writes a new one, so the trail stays complete.

Double-entry ledger

A real general ledger, not a list of payments.

Everything you record, from a quick note to a hand-written adjustment, lands in one double-entry journal. That’s why the reports always agree with each other.

Every entry balances
Total debits must equal total credits before an entry can be posted. The database checks it too.
Manual journal entries
Accountants can write any entry by hand: accruals, depreciation, corrections, opening balances.
Posted means permanent
Posted entries are voided or reversed, never edited in place. The original and the correction both stay on record.
Numbered your way
Journal entries get running numbers with the prefix and padding you choose.

Chart of accounts

A chart of accounts that adds itself up.

Group accounts as deep as your business needs. Parent accounts roll up their children automatically, so every subtotal is always correct.

Start from a template
Pick Freelancer, Agency, NGO or Startup during setup and get a sensible chart of accounts in one click.
Unlimited depth
Nest Cash & Bank under Current Assets under Assets, and keep going. You post to the detailed accounts, and the parent accounts total them up.
Always in balance
Assets always equal liabilities plus equity. You can see it at the bottom of the chart.

Financial accounts

Know what’s in the bank without opening the bank.

Add the accounts your money actually moves through. Every payment you record updates their balances and your cash position.

Every place money sits
Bank accounts, cash, credit cards, mobile wallets and PayPal, each linked to its own ledger account.
Opening balances, done properly
Start from today’s balance with a dated opening entry, so your books begin balanced.
Transfers that stay neutral
Moving money between your own accounts never shows up as income or expense.
Cash position at a glance
The dashboard adds up every cash account, so you always know what you can spend.

Contacts

Everyone you do business with, in one list.

Customers and vendors share one simple contact record, so the people behind your numbers are always a click away.

One record, any role
A contact can be a customer, a vendor or both. No duplicates for the client who also sends you bills.
The details you reach for
Email, phone, tax number, billing address, default currency and payment terms in one place.
Linked to every transaction
Tag a payment with a contact and see everything you’ve exchanged with them.
Deactivate, don’t delete
Old contacts drop out of your pickers but stay on the records they belong to.

Financial reports

The reports your accountant expects, ready whenever you are.

Choose any date range. Expand a group to see the accounts behind each number, then open any account to see the transactions behind it.

Multi-currency

Paid in euros, reporting in dollars? Fine.

Record money in the currency it moved in. Akaunty converts it at the rate for that date and keeps every report in your base currency.

A base currency per organization
Each organization reports in its own base currency, so a Berlin entity and a New York one each read naturally.
Record in any currency
Enter a transaction in the currency it happened in. Akaunty keeps the original amount and the base-currency amount side by side.
Exchange rates by date
Keep a dated rate table, and each transaction uses the rate for its own day. Reports always add up in one currency.
Realized gains and losses
When a foreign invoice or bill is settled at a different rate, the difference is booked for you.

Periods & year-end

Close the month. Keep it closed.

Accounting periods follow your fiscal year. Lock them as you finish reviewing, and close the year without a spreadsheet.

Periods from your fiscal year
Tell Akaunty when your year starts and the months are set up for you.
Close a month once it’s reviewed
Posting into a closed period is refused, so numbers you’ve already reported can’t drift.
Year-end close in one step
Profit or loss for the year moves into retained earnings, and the closing balances become next year’s opening balances.
A snapshot at every close
Each close freezes the balance of every account, so the past stays reproducible.

Organizations & roles

Bring your team. Bring your accountant.

Switch between organizations in a click, and decide exactly who can record, review or only read in each one.

Many organizations, one login
Run a studio, a side business and a nonprofit, or serve every client as their accountant, without signing out.
Each with its own books
Every organization has its own chart of accounts, base currency, fiscal year and team.
Five clear roles
Owner, admin, accountant, member and viewer. Invite people by email and give each the access their job needs.
Built for your accountant
Accountants get the full ledger, periods and close, without access to billing or your team settings.

Accounting you can trust

Simple on the surface. Real double-entry underneath.

Akaunty follows the same rules accountants use. Hand your books to a professional and they’ll find them in order.

  • Every entry balances

Total debits must equal total credits. An entry that doesn’t balance can’t be posted.

  • Posted means permanent

Posted entries can’t be edited or deleted. Mistakes are voided or reversed, and the original stays on record.

  • A full audit trail

See who created, changed, posted or voided anything, when they did it, and what changed.

  • Closed periods stay closed

Lock a month or a year once it’s reviewed. Nobody can change what you’ve already reported.

  • Your books stay yours

Every organization’s data is isolated at the database level, not just hidden in the app.

  • Roles & permissions

Give owners, admins, accountants and viewers exactly the access they need.

Security

Your books are sensitive. We treat them that way.

Strong sign-in, visible sessions and strict isolation between organizations come with every plan.

Two-factor authentication
Protect your login with an authenticator app, with recovery codes for the day you lose your phone.
Sessions you can see
Check where you’re signed in and sign out any device you don’t recognise.
API keys, scoped and hashed
Connect your own tools with keys scoped to one organization. Keys are stored hashed and can be revoked any time.
Organizations sealed off
Each organization’s data is isolated by the database itself, not just hidden by the app. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest.

New in Akaunty

Invoices, bills and the rest of the paperwork.

All of it writes to the same ledger as everything above, so your reports stay right without extra work.
