Cookie policy
Last updated Draft
This is a draft. It describes the cookies and browser storage Akaunty uses today and will be replaced by the reviewed policy before launch.
The short version
- No tracking cookies.
- No advertising, social media or other third-party cookies.
- Cookies only where they’re needed.
- To keep you signed in, plus one that remembers your sidebar.
- Analytics are cookieless.
- Page views and performance are measured without cookies.
- So there’s no cookie banner.
- Nothing we store needs your consent; we’ll ask if that changes.
What cookies are
Cookies are small pieces of data a website asks your browser to keep and send back with later requests. Browsers also offer similar storage, such as local storage, that stays on your device and is only read by the site’s own pages. This policy covers both.
Cookies we use
Akaunty sets only its own cookies, and only when you sign in or use the app. The marketing pages, such as this one, set none.
| Cookie | What it does | Kind | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
refresh_token | Keeps you signed in. Your browser can’t read it from scripts (httpOnly), never sends it to other sites (SameSite=Strict) and only sends it to Akaunty’s sign-in endpoints (/api/v1/auth). | Strictly necessary | Up to 30 days; removed when you sign out |
oauth_state | Protects sign-in with Google, Apple, Microsoft or GitHub from forged requests. Set only while you sign in with one of them, and only sent to /api/v1/auth/oauth. | Strictly necessary | 10 minutes at most |
sidebar_state | Remembers whether you collapsed the app’s sidebar. | Preference | 7 days |
Browser storage we use
Akaunty also keeps a few small values in your browser’s storage. They stay on your device and are never sent to us or to analytics.
| Key | What it does | Where | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
theme | Your light, dark or system theme choice. | Local storage | Until you clear it |
akaunty:last-org | The organization you opened last, so the app can take you back to it. | Local storage | Until you clear it |
akaunty:first_transaction:…, akaunty:first_report_viewed:… | Notes that an onboarding milestone was already counted in this browser, so it’s counted once. The organization’s id only names the key. | Local storage | Until you clear it |
akaunty:auth-next | The page to return to after you sign in. | Session storage (this tab only) | Until you sign in or close the tab |
Analytics
We measure page views, a few product events and page performance with Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights. Both work without cookies and don’t follow you across other sites. Before anything is sent, organization names and one-time links are removed from page addresses, and events never include amounts, names, contact details or other financial content. The privacy policy explains what we collect and why.
What we don’t use
- Advertising or retargeting cookies.
- Social media pixels or widgets that set cookies.
- Third-party tracking cookies of any kind.
Why there’s no cookie banner
The cookies above are needed to sign you in securely or remember a choice you made, and our analytics don’t use cookies. None of them need your consent, so we don’t show a banner. If we ever add a tool that does, we’ll ask for your consent first and update this page.
Managing cookies
You can view and delete cookies and site storage in your browser’s settings. If you block the refresh_token cookie, you won’t stay signed in to Akaunty. Clearing site storage resets your theme and which organization the app opens first.
Changes to this policy
If we change the cookies or storage Akaunty uses, we’ll update this page and the date at the top.
